Barcelona's Best: Miro, Gaudi and Picasso

Our final stop on our 11-day December cruise on Norwegian's Spirit from Venice was Barcelona, a city I've long wanted to explore. As an artist, I wanted to visit the museums and buildings related to Barcelona's favorite sons: Gaudi, Miro, and Picasso. Tricia-Rose and I visited Gaudi's fabulous cathedral "La Sagrada Familia" and I toured Miro's museum and Picasso's museum.

On our way to Basque country to visit friends Mara and Mikel we drove to the mountaintop monastery of Montserrat and heard the boys' choir and received the blessings of the Black Madonna.

Gaudi was inspired by Nature's architecture, particularly trees

We were fortunate to have the afternoon sun casting rainbow light from the stained glass

Plaça Sant Felip Neri shows the scars of two bombs dropped by Franco's planes killing 30 children sheltering in the convent. Today, the plaza is used as a football playground by local kids.
